What Do I Need?When you wear Kimono, you need to use some other items. How to wear Kimono is not one way as there are many types of Kimono. These items are the most basic ones. 1. Underwear and Naga-juban These are worn as underwear of Kimono to avoid dirtying Kimono by sweat etc. You can use T-shirts instead of them. 2. Datejime These are used to tie around your waist over the Himo so the Kimono will not become loose. 3. Kimono Of course you need Kimono. 4. Zouri / Geta In generally, Zouri that has flat bottom is for Kimono, and Geta that has wooden bottom with 2 wooden blocks is for Yukata. 5. Obi (belt) Obi is one of most important item of wearing Kimono. There are as many kinds as Kimono, and ways to tie. Usuallyit is 12-14 inches wide. 6. Obijime It is braided cord tied on top of the Obi to make the shape beautiful and to keep the Obi in the right position. You don't have to use them for some types of Obi such as Nagoya-Obi or Hasun-Obi. 7. Himo Himo means rope. After you wear underwear, you tie your waist with Himo so the Kimono will not become loose. 8. Kitsuke-belt This is made with rubber. It's used on Juban. 9. Tabi Tabi is socks for Kimono. The toe part is separated for big toe and others to put on Zouri. |
Other comvinient ItemsThese items are also convenient and usufull. 10. Han-eri Eri means a collar. You can see Han-eri between Kimono and their neck. 11. Susoyoke Susoyoke is worn under the Naga-Juban to protect Kimono. Also it makes walking easier. 12. Eri-shin Eri-shin is used to through Naga-juban's collar to keep the shape of collar. 13. Obi-pillow Obi-pillow is used with Hassun-obi and Nagoya-Obi to make the Obi shape easier. 14. Mae-Ita By putting Mae-ita into Obi, you can tie the Obi easier without crinkles. |
